PREFACE

When I was asked if I would like to atend a Seminar at the Mid-Sussex Martial Arts School, Led by Hiroaki Izumi (Shihan) must admit thatIwas a little apprehensive and it was going to be the first time that Sykes my Newest Guide Dog have been away from the home area yet alone atend any seminar.

I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. Contacted Roger and before I knew what has happened it was all arranged.

The seminar was one of the best I have attended for many Years and I have comeaway from it feeling very refreshed and very much more willing to teach again.

Earlier during the Year Liz has stopped teaching and there is now a very large gap as far as the Dojo is concerned. Before I let for the seminar I have seriously considdered no longer teaching Aikido. TheSeminar that I attended showed me that it was still possable to continue teaching but from a different stand point.

I would Like to sincerely thank Hiroaki Izumi (Shihan) an Roger Payne Kyoshi) for both inspiring me and that is why this Preface is written and dedicated to the above mentioned people.

It is always very hard to pick up the pieces when good teachers stop teaching or training for various personal reasons but, I am certain that all will turn out well for the future of the Norwich Dojo.

Written with real heart felt thanks, Steve ( Sensei).

Click here for more details concerning Hiroaki Izumi (Shihan) and read more about the Organization he heads.

Also, click here to access the website that deals with the on-going DVD series called "Aikido Principles " I highly recommend these DVDs even as a Blind Aikidoka.

REVIEW OF CURRENT DVDs "AIKIDO PRINCIPLES" (ON-GOING SERIES)

DVD Vol.1 Kamai

I must start by stating that Hiroaki Izumi Shihan (Rocky) to his friends asked me to write a review "Warts and all" and now I will try to fulfill myobligation.

I am not a very good or qualified writer but, I will do my best.

From the start all DVDs can only be reviewed by me from a totally blind stand point with the visual aspects verbally told to me. I will over time ask my Students and friends to give me their oppinions as they see it.

The first Volume deals with the subject of Kamai the whole basis of Aikido for without Kamai you cannot achieve anything at all.

It deals with Ai-Hanmi Gyakyu-Hanmi and has many exercises to help with not only the application but also the movements, Thery and many other aspects that must be learnt in order to be stable when moveing or attacked.

From a non visual stand point I must state that I think that the blind user would have had to have some experience of Aikido before using any of these DVDs. I maybe completely wrong, however judging from my own experience it can take many Years Hours for people with no sight at all to learn the movements described. It maybe useful for those with some useful vission I would need to do much more research in to the subject.

Liz (Sensei) who is a qualified Aikido Coach has looked at all of the DVDs and I will give a brief review on the words that I was given.

In general all of the DVDs camera work is very high in definition and quality. The angles match the wording acurately and is very clear with the thery.

That is what one of the best local Sensei says and if the visual aspect match the verbal then she is perfectly correct in my oppinion.
