BRITISH BLIND SPORTS (BBS)

BBS logo

British Blind Sport is a registered charity (No 271500) and the co-ordinating body of sport for the blind and partially sighted in the UK. BBS is affiliated to the World Governing Body, IBSA (International Blind Sport Federation) and represent them in the UK. We are the VI member organisation of the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and administer competitors sight classifications to most of the visually impaired sports and VI paralympians.

The charity was set up in 1975 by visually impaired people, to enable them to have a controlling interest in their various sports.

Our sports are run by committees of visually impaired and sighted volunteers. We have committees for archery, athletics, cricket, football, tenpin bowling and rifle shooting. In addition there is considerable interest in chess, golf, riding, sailing & skiing, Goalball and Judo. We also encourage visually impaired people to pursue their chosen sports through membership of their local sighted sports clubs and aim to provide, where necessary, advice to achieve such integration.

BBS - Archery and Five a side football

We raise funds and organise National Championships for all our sports, such as Schools and Adult Championships in athletics, swimming and five-a-side football. A knockout cricket competition is held during the summer and the final staged at

We believe in the many benefits that sport can offer visually impaired people, including improved health and mobility, broadening horizons, making new friends, and becoming more independent. We try to encourage as many blind and partially sighted children and adults as possible to participate in sport at all levels, from 'grassroots' to Paralympic representation.
